Soapbox 1333: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

WCCA TV Executive Director Mauro DePasquale interviews Eduardo Rivas, MBA, CAGS Accounting Faculty/Enrollment Counselor Designated School Official(DSO) Quinsigamond Community College, Nahum Echeverria , Business student at QCC, and Mohamed Kanafani Business student at QCC about The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, an IRS initiative designed to support free tax preparation services for low- to moderate-income individuals (people who generally make $60,000 or less), persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English speakers. The VITA program is run with the support of volunteers and students. Professor Eduardo Rivas created college credit opportunities for QCC students participating in the VITA program. They run the program at QCC in collaboration with Main South CDC. QCC students prepare their tax returns in the VITA program at MSCDC. They have four different VITA sites in Worcester: Main South CDC, WCAC, Plumley Village, and Worcester State University. Clients can call Main South CDC to make an appointment if they are eligible: (508) 752-6181 or vita.qcc@gmail.com. To get taxes done, remote clients can visit www.getyourrefund.org/MSCDC. Clients can get their taxes done in person or remotely.
