On this episode of the Senior Speak, host Edith Morgan speaks on her families' flight from Hitler's Germany in 1933, first seeking refuge in France until the 1940 Nazi invasion. Crossing the Pyrenees into Spain and then Portugal, they found passage aboard a converted German freighter sailing from Lisbon to New York, extremely fortunate to be among what was to be the last wave of refugees to escape the Holocaust. She recounts her experience in being welcomed to the US by an experimental Quaker-run refugee-community based in Iowa, and reflects on how American and Global politics have shifted over the course of her lifetime.
