Close to Home 580 Our Lady Of Guadalupe Pt 1

In this first episode of a two-part series on Close to Home, host Maureen Schwab welcomes Dr. Madeline Colon-Usowicz to discuss the sacred image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a 1531 painting by Juan Diego, inspired by apparitions of the Virgin Mary that appeared to him in what is present-day Mexico City. The image has served for nearly 500 years as a central religious and cultural symbol of Mexico, first helping to evangelize amongst native populations and eventually becoming venerated throughout the entire Catholic world. Today, the basilica housing the original is the most-visited Catholic shrine in the world, and the world's third most-visited sacred site.
