Letter: Community cable TV 13 deserves full funding

In today's Telegram & Gazette:

Worcester Community Cable Access TV 13 is an important and vital community resource in Worcester, and deserves full funding, using the fees paid by cable companies to the city and earmarked for local community access programming.

The station provides Worcester’s residents with an effective way of directly communicating on important local issues with their neighbors, our seniors, our veterans as well as ethnic and civic groups.

WCCA also serves as a wonderful training ground for our young people to get hands-on experience and learn the skills needed to work in the cable and television industry. Indeed, this station enriches all of our lives and its funding shouldn’t be delayed.

I understand that much of the equipment currently being used needs replacement or updating. In addition, WCCA’s signal and reach should be expanded so its programming could air in neighboring Central Massachusetts communities that are connected with Worcester and share common interests.

WCCA is at a critical point in its operation and ability to respond to the community’s needs. Worcester’s city manager should not delay signing a new contract to continue funding this great resource for the Worcester community.

Frank is right. I think the station is amazing. Everyday there is new and interesting things, not always polished, but really important and real stuff. WCCA helps a lot of people. The city administration looks pretty bad by dragging thing out and not funding the station. O'Brien should be looking into what he can do to further help the station grow. Many people petitioned the city seeking the station to be seen in nearby towns and the station asked to go county wide, the city manager's negotiation team either failed or were not paying attention to what the people wanted for the People's Channel, WCCA TV. Support this station, it is something for us, the people of Worcester. It is the number one best thing to come out of the cable license. Without argument as far as I am concerned.

Faith,
WCCA provides streaming video over the internet. This means that anyone on this planet who has access to the internet can watch all the programs produced by WCCA. This is a wonderful way to promote Worcester to the county, state, nation, continent and the world. Take away funding and you take away a powerful tool for marketing the city. Many of the locally produced programs that are broadcast on WCCA are also available for downloading on the internet which lets you watch programs you may missed or that you want to share with people interested in knowing what's happening in Worcester.

If this channel is part of Charter, then why can't I see it in Leicester. I watch a show called Cooking With Georgia which my brother in law who lives in Worcester tapes for me each week. I don't see why Charter just doesn't show it to us all.

Anyone who has watched Channel 13 on a regular basis or better yet, visited or used their downtown studios knows that, not only should they be funded, they should have their funding increased. Anyone who has watched the 'government channel' or the 'school or education channel' would also know that there is no comparison in programming. For the city to compare the wide variety of educational and entertaining programs of WCCA to the often static 'meetings' or 'talking heads' and bulletin boards of the other two channels is crazy. There is no comparison at all. Hello? The fact that the city manager and council need meeting after meeting to figure out the differences between these channels is rather disheartening, considering that any chld could tell the difference with the flick of a remote. It's that silly. Channel 13 is the real deal and should get increased funding immediately.

I want to setup a tv station
